The Municipality of Zagarolo (Italy) established the no-profit Istituzione Palazzo Rospigliosi Foundation in 2007. The Foundation is specialized mainly in the fields of Art and Culture and is based at the prestigious sixteenth-century Palazzo Rospigliosi from which it takes its name. The Foundation encompasses the following:
- The Palazzo Rospigliosi (as a monumental asset);
- The Toy Museum;
- The Public Library;
- The Art Schools.
European Toys Route is based on the idea of creating a network which links European museums of toys in order to realize the first Memory Game Exhibition.
Memory Game is like a journey back in time, down memory lane. This is no ordinary museum. You don't just look around; you can actually be involved in the creation and use of games and toys. The children can therefore take part and, for the first time ever, play an active role in the design, research into and enjoyment of games, rather than stand looking on passively, which is often the case at other museums. There are also plans to bring children in contact with and learn from the elderly. Moreover, Zagarolo's toy museum has reason to believe it will stand out above the many other museums in the field around Italy and the rest of Europe. A purely indicative and non-exhaustive list of the main game and toy museums in Italy and Europe is given further on.
