Culture Programe (2007-2013) "The Myth of Hercules in European Culture" Programme Culture Programme 2007-2013 Call and Priority Call for Proposals: Support for cultural actions Strand 1.2.1: Cooperation projects (max. 24 months) Deadline 01 October 2009 Eligible Countries under Culture Programme In order to meet the objectives of the Programme, the call for proposals seeks to support cultural cooperation projects aimed at cultural exchanges between the countries taking part in the Programme: • EU Member States, • EEA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), • Countries candidate to EU membership (Croatia, Turkey and former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) plus Serbia. The cooperation projects concerns actions shared by at least three cultural operators, working within and across sectors, from at above) over a maximum period of two years. Description of the philosophy of the proposal and objectives The title of the proposed project is "The Myth of Hercules in European Culture", the distinctive title is "Iraklia". The project has aim to expose the impact of the myth of Hercules in the European culture, education, art and how its influences and connects European countries diachronically through the ages till today. The philosophy of the project is that the myth of Hercules can be the base for the development of translational cultural entrepreneurship. This will be achieved by exploiting of the myth's world – wide reflection as a strong brand name in communication and cultural events where highlights a timeless cultural reserve. Moreover, in correlation with the natural environment and the growth of cultural and green entrepreneurship in the places that the Herculean labours took place and into other related with the myth European countries. The proposed project concerns the following actions: 1. Festival in Athens 2. Conference in Athens 3. Development of Internet Portal 4. Festival and workshop in one foreign partner 5. Festival and workshop in one foreign partner Objectives The co-operation amongst the European cultural institutions is based on the common European cultural heritage, which is the myth of Hercules, and operates as leverage for the cooperation and development of common activities in culture. Medium-term objectives of the proposed project are to support the mobility of artists and professionals in the cultural sector, to encourage the exchange of artists, cultural products and projects in relation to the myth of Hercules. Also the establishment of annual cultural events with pan-European and international interest, which will act as a forerunner of cultural entrepreneurship in this area. Long-term objective of the project is to stimulate the intercultural dialogue on the opportunities that emerge in the cultural and green entrepreneurship, which will contribute to a long-term development of cultural cooperation among organization and individuals in Europe. Expected Results The expected results of the project are: • Improving the knowledge and dissemination of the culture and history of the myth of Hercules in European Culture; • Increasing the respect of the national and regional diversity; • Increasing the awareness of the European common cultural heritage by safeguarding its preservation; • Creating non-commercial cultural exchanges; • Stimulation of the intercultural dialogue on the opportunities that emerge in the cultural and green entrepreneurship, which will contribute to a long-term development of cultural cooperation among organization and individuals in Europe. At the moment 7 cultural organizations from Greece have declared their participation in the Programme in the form of Cultural Consortium. According to the aims of the project and the Programme, we underline the fact that the Consortium should be composed by the following kind of organizations: • They must be a public or private body with legal status, whose principal activity is in the cultural sphere (cultural and creative sectors, especially theatre); • They must have their registered legal seat in one of the countries taking part in the Programme. Cultural operators, including cultural enterprises, can participate in the Culture Programme as long as they are acting in a non-profit-making cultural capacity. Duration and financial expectations Duration: 14 months Start: approximately May 2010 Budget: 390.000* € European Commission financing: 195.000 € (50%) Partners co-financing: 195.000 € (50%) ** *It depends from the activities developed by the partnership **Partners co-financing could be the result of the valorization the inner project-job and / or of financial directed contribution. At the moment most of this amount has been approved for finance from sponsors. Presentation of the Applicant / Lead Partner The cultural Consortium is consisted by 7 Greek cultural non-governmental organizations. All the organizations have long experience in activities of culture, in volunteerism, in protection of environment and the stimulation of social economy.
