CHILDREN’S GREEK PROJECT: KID-O-MATHESIS
The key objective of this project is to use “art and culture” as the basis for the creation of educational/learning tools which promote participative and experiential learning (mathesis in Greek) of fundamental educational skills such as numeracy and literacy while at the same time engendering cultural awareness and appreciation in young children. Through the use of these learning tools, the European citizens of tomorrow (children 4 -10 years old) will interact with a diverse range of art forms drawn from and depicting the richness and diversity of European cultural heritage. The project’s thesis is that through the use of melody and rhythm, game-play and dramatization, movement and mime, storytelling and parables, children’s learning processes are stimulated in a way that has depth and longevity. Using music and other art forms (drama, movement and dance, painting and drawing, game-play, video and multimedia) as the prime vehicles, children and artists from several European countries will be engaged as active participants in collaborative projects in the design and development of a number of educational tools. Drawing upon local cultural and educational strands of the participant countries, the learning tools / educational material developed will enable children to continue their learning experience both at home and at school. High standards of creativity and production will be applied. The project’s main objectives will be to develop material that is inspired, imaginative, entertaining, ‘educationally sound’ and engaging for children, simple but not simplistic, marketable but not “commercial”. These tools/educational materials will include: 1. THREE MUSIC CDs and a DVD with songs focused on development of LITERACY AND NUMERACY 2. AN INTERACTIVE MUSIC and PHYSICAL THEATRE WORK / PERFORMANCE 3. A BOARD GAME 4. AN E-LEARNING ON-LINE ENVIRONMENT .These tools will be based primarily on themes and narratives designed in a series of workshops with artists and educationalists and other professionals from the participant countries. The music and multimedia material will be designed and executed accordingly by a creative team under the supervision of composer/producer Tassos Ioannides. After a three month applicability testing period in schools and Educational Institutions “an educational package” will be produced which will include all the tools/ material developed as well as parent/teacher/student instruction guides. A performance season of the Music and Physical Theatre Work will also be scheduled.
We looking in this project which we will do with the support of CULTURE 2007-2013 European program to find co-organisers and partners from all over Europe to participate with us in any field may think that can work on or may offer previous experience. We welcome companies with multimedia experience, puppet theatres, dancing companies working with children, children’s theatre etc., and looking forward to receive their ideas to form together this projects.
